Just A Little Fiddle {Leaf Fig}

A few months ago I jumped on the fiddle leaf fig train and bought a small one for $10 over at Home Depot.  I have kept it in the dining room right in front of the window.  I was concerned about killing it (because basically i kill most plants) so I reached out and asked my Instagram peeps if they had any tips.

Brandi at Don't Disturb This Grove linked me up to a picture of her fiddle that she had shared on her Instagram - don't over water!  Look for the signs! She said "For my fiddle-leaf fig friends: See the droopy leaf on the left, that's when I know it's time for water. I wait for that signal and it's worked for me so far!" See her fiddle below - see the bent leaf on the left?

Check out all her pics on Instagram and you will see, this guy has grown a ton!!  It's so pretty!

I have followed her advice and my little fiddle has been doing quite well - at least staying alive!  I need to transplant it to a larger pot.  I also want to find a very thickly woven basket to nest it in.  But for now, it's loving living right in front of the window in the dining room.  I'll be back to update in another few months :)

By the way, Brandi has a great eye for design and decorating, is super helpful if you ever have any questions, and is one of the nicest bloggers (or just regular people) I have ever met!  Thanks for all your help!!  Be sure to visit Brandi's blog and check out her adorable house :)

Do any of you have a fiddle?  How have you been caring for it?  I just love them!

  1. I kill most plants too, so you're not alone! I only have two house plants, and both are looking a little dead right now, actually. I better go water them!

  3. Wow! Nice plant. I've never had a large plant in the house before. I have a small ivy in the kitchen. I'll work my way up slowly. LOL

  4. You're so sweet, Kelli! Thank you for your kind words about me and my blog. I am so happy your plant is growing and remaining healthy. It's starting to get a little chilly here in the evenings so it might be time to bring them in.

  5. So are the fiddles supposed to get direct sunlight? I have a great window in my apartment where I could put one that faces east. Do you think that's a good idea?

    1. I think they can get it - my friend who I mentioned in this post, Brandi, says she has kept hers outside this summer and it's doing really good - so I would imagine that it's getting some direct sunlight :) I have kept mine in the north-facing dining room and it's doing well, but there's no direct sun... you could give it a try and see how it goes :)
