New Year's Eve eve

Ken and me last New Year's Eve..  What a great year it has been. We'll be with many friends tomorrow night.  Some that we don't get to see very often and some that we see in our neighborhood quite a bit - they are all special to us.  We feel very fortunate to call them all friends.  Hope you have a very happy and safe New Year's!  Cheers!

My Christmas Gift

Yeay!  I'm so excited about my new book.  Can't wait to wile away the hours reading this beauty.  But first I need to start packing up my decorations....  right?  I'll just look at the book for a little while, then I'll start packing.. yeah, sounds good.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

We have had a wonderful holiday season here at 818~  I am truly blessed to have the family and the friends I hold dear.  I really don't want to take down the decorations because it just seems that when we have those decorations in front of us we remember to be a little nicer, a little more patient, and a little more loving.  I know it's not about the decorations, etc., but if they help the mood, then I say let's have more!  I know they affect my mood!  I get just awe-struck when I turn the corner and see the tree all lit up in the evenings.  And when I pull into the driveway at the end of my work day I see the little twinkling lights on the garland around the front door and it instantly makes the hour commute melt away.  And lighting the Hanukkah candles every night makes us stop and reflect on God's great love for us all.

Yes, Jesus is the reason for the season - but somewhere along the way those decorations became important.  When I was little I can remember laying on the floor looking up at the tree, seeing my reflection in the gold glass ornaments.  I remember feeling the magic!  the excitement!  In many ways I still feel that same excitement now and I love it.  I'm still like a little kid at Christmas and sometimes get teary at movies and songs about the holidays

But, down they must come.  I am off work this week so I will probably start packing up my stuff tomorrow.  Little by little, bit by bit, until it's all neatly tucked away until Thanksgiving weekend 2012.

Work Work Work

It's that time of year again - our organization goes to its annual meeting for 6 days.  We leave our homes and live in a hotel for 6 days in December.  REALLY?  December?  Yes we do!  And it is not my favorite thing.  I miss my family and all of the Christmasy things I like to do in December.

One thing in particular that is happening today is the SEC Championship game. UGA vs. LSU this year!  I know, it's not a Christmasy thing, but it is an important thing that happens in December!  I would be watching this with my sweetie and some other Dawg fans today if I were home.  Instead, I hope I make it out of this meeting in time to see the kick-off!

Well, if I can't be decorating, baking, and hanging out with friends today, at least I will be able to watch some of the game.  Just need to find some Dawg fans to hang out with!
